Information for Prospective Teachers

Our needs for additional teachers vary throughout the year. Although there are certain times of the year where we are likely to put on additional classes, (September and March) numbers of students, classes and teachers can change quite quickly and often unexpectedly. Occasionally we will require teachers for short term study tours.

We are continually adding suitably qualified and experienced teachers to our Emergency/Relief Teaching List, and it is often from this list that we find ongoing teachers for the busier times. It certainly pays to have submitted your CV as long as you have the basic qualifications and experience.

Qualifications and Experience

The qualifications and requirements to be able to teach English at GEOS Melbourne are as set out by the National ELT Accreditation Scheme. Please refer to their website.

The main areas are:

1.  Bachelor’s Degree plus

2.  A qualification in Teaching English as a Second Language. Cambridge/RSA CELTA courses can be taken at a number of Melbourne colleges. RMIT Worldwide English, Holmes College, Holmesglen TAFE, Monash University and La Trobe University all run this course. Graduate Certificates and Diplomas in Applied Linguistics (TESOL) can be undertaken at many universities, some by distance education. However, keep in mind that such a course must contain a teaching practicum.

If you have the required qualifications and experience and wish to be considered for inclusion in our Emergency/Relief Teaching team then please forward your CV to:
